He was born in the middle of 19th century M. He lived in Mauretania, al-Maġrib and al-Ḥiǧāz. Studied fiqh, adab and language. Major teacher Šayḫ Mā' al-ʻAynayn (1246-1328H) in the zāwiya of Ṣmāra.
