Biographic comments

Military leader and close associate of aṣe Mənilək II, taking part in many of his campaigns including the Battle of Ǝmbabo (June 1882), the crushing of the Islamic revivalist movement in Gurage region.In 1907 he assumed the portfolio of Minister of War, a position that he retained until his death. Following the incapacitation of Mənilək after 1908, he emerged as one of the power brokers. In the new political order that ensued he had an uneasy relationship with ras Täfäri Mäkʷännən (the future Ḫaylä Śəllase I). He was note for his high sense of justice and the wisdom of his judgements.
