Of Algerian origin, he gave Aḥmat al-Tiǧānī the ṭarīqa al-Ḫalwatiyya when the latter passed through Tamacine in Algeria on 1188 H, before the beginning of the TIǧāniyya. After that he become one of the earliest members of the order. He has been the author of some of the seminal works of the TIǧāniyya, like his Kitāb al-Ǧāmiʻ.
