Biographic comments

Šāfiʻī faqīh and ḥadīṯ scholar. He was born in al-Andalus but moved first to Cairo and then settled in Damascus. He is known for his didactic poem Qaṣīda ghazaliyya.

According to EI, al-Suyūṭī erroneously identified him as the son of Muḥammad b. Aḥmad b. Abī Bakr b. Faraḥ, Abū ʻAbd Allāh al-Qurṭubī (d. 671/1273).
