Biographic comments

Ruler of the Walašmaʻ dynasty. He tried to regain the power after the religious faction of ʻAdal had enthroned ʻAlī, belonging to a different lineage. He killed Abūn b. Adaš and in 1520 managed to trasfer the capital from Dakar to Harar. The opinions of Ethiopian historians diverge on the effects on economy and society on his rule. The religious faction managed to gain the support of Aḥmad Gran, who pursued Abū Bakr up to the Somali region. The position of Gran became stronger with the expansion of his domains at the expense of the Christian power. He then killed Abū Bakr and made ʻUmardīn his puppet king.
