Collection

Biblioteca civica "Carlo Bonetta"

The Biblioteca Civica (Civic Library) of Pavia was established as a bequest by Carlo Bonetta, d. 1870, and was open to the public in 1887 in its present location, the Stabilimento di Belle Arti Malaspina. He left to the town his collections of paintings, ancient coins, documents and around 4000 books together with a certain amount of money to establish a museum. The collections grew thanks to the contribution of other illustrious citizens and then, in 1950s, thanks to an endowment by the Fascist National Institute of Culture, becoming a public library.
