Biographic comments

Born in Ǧiren, died in Mecca. Following his father, Abbā Dulā, he was crowned king of Ǧimma in 1930. The kingdom was abolished in 1932 but restored during the Italian occupation. On the return of Haile Selassie in 1941, Abbā Ǧōbir was again removed from power.

During the later part of his life (from 1946 onwards) he devoted himself to scholarly pursuits, producing i.a. a history of the Kingdom of Ǧimma and Oromo (unpublished).
