Biographic comments

He was the famous Oromo King of the Gibe Kingdom of Ǧimmā; his mother, Genne Gummiti, was the daughter of the King of Gumma and his father, Abbā Gomol, was the fourth King of Ǧimma. He bacame king in a time of severe persecutions of Muslims in Wällo, and high pressure from the neighbouring Amhara kings of Goǧǧam and Šäwa, to whom he eventually submitted peacefully, maintaining internal autonomy. He welcomed Muslim refugees, among whom there were learned men, and supported the activities of Muslims religious orders.
