Biographic comments

Sudanese Ṣūfī born in Umm Marriḥ, north of Omdurman. He studied in Mecca and one of his teachers was ʻAbd Allāh al-Maḥǧūb al-Mīrġanī, founder of al-Mīrġaniyya ṭarīqa.
He was initiated into the Ḫalwatiyya order by Ibrāhīm b. Muḥammad ʻAbd al-Salām al-Makkī al-Šāfiʻī, a disciple of Muṣṭafā Kamāl al-Dīn al-Bakrī and into the Naqšbandiyya by ʻAbd al-Raḥmān al-ʻAydarūs (d. 1192/1778). Then he moved to Medina, where he became the disciple of Muḥammad b. ʻAbd al-Karīm al-Sammān, the founder of Sammāniyya, a branch of the Ḫalwatiyya. Later, al-Samman sent Aḥmad back to Sudan to initiate followers.
