Biographic comments

Venerated scholar and saint in Wallo region. He was born in Maṭaqlayā, Ifāt. Together with one of his teachers he traveled to Sudan, to Omdurmān, where he met Sayyid Aḥmad al-Ṭayyib b. al-Bašir and was initiated to the Sammāniyya order. Eventually, he returned to Ethiopia and settled in Gatā, where he established center of Islamic scholarship and ṣūfī devotion. He died in Gatā and was buried there.
